"THE FORK IN THE ROAD" FOUND IN KERSHAW, SOUTH CAROLINA

© Directional News Bureau Press

On Oct. 14th, 2006 The "Proverbial" FORK IN THE ROAD was located in Kershaw, South Carolina. According to The US Bureau of Standards Spokesperson Paul North, "If verified this is one the last great directional "finds" on planet earth. This is the "Holly Grail" for cartographers."

Cartographers surveyors, and everyday Americans have long known the location of the other directions; north, south, east, west, left, right, and straight.

Experts in GPS (Global Positioning System) were quoted as saying, "This discovery may put us in the position to get an accuracy of ± 1/4 inch, a quantum leap in accuracy with world wide consequences."

Long thought to be fictional, THE FORK IN THE ROAD has been compared to other mysteries such as The Loch Nest Monster, Big Foot, and The Fountain of Youth. Over the years there have been several hoaxes. Notably the 1842 Paris sighting and the 1912 Peru incident. Both were found to be elaborate frauds. The 1912 Peru sighting generated such excitement in the mapmaking world that several of the top cartographers in the world lost their reputations and fortunes when the details of the fraud were discovered.

Contacted at their studio, the popular TV Show Myth Busters' Producer Randy McNally said, "We're on it, one of the intriguing things about this is that when we did an in-depth internet map and directional search on Kershaw, part of the directions were "at the fork in the road, veer right to US 521 Bypass".

The CBS NEWS show 60 Minutes also is investigating, an unnamed associate stated, "I think Mike Wallace will come out of retirement for this one."

One local resident, that asked that his name (Eddie Adams) not be used said, "I moved here about 10 years ago, I saw it and picked it up and threw it away every day for about a week, I just figured some old timer was playing a joke on me by replacing it everyday."

More on this story as it develops.
