Mark Your Calendars for May
The week of May 12th will be a busy and exciting week for many volunteers and committees through out Lancaster County. There will be something for everyone from Kershaw to Lancaster Downtown to the Lancaster Air Field. The week being hailed as Trains, Planes and Automobiles promises to offer the familiar and the different. Whether you are a visitor or a resident there is enough happening that week that everyone should find a place to go and plenty to do.
Starting with Thursday May 15th the Downtown Lancaster Merchants will be welcoming the Prevention Coalition Conference attendees. This is the second year this group has gathered at USC-L from all over the nation and the second year Lancaster Downtown has held a special night to greet and entertain them in a number of ways. The stores will stay open with special preparations along with music and entertainment. There will be buggy rides to the L&C Railroad Museum and an automobile show, plus other experiences still being planned. We encourage the local residents to also attend and to seek out these conferees, making them know how much we appreciate their returning to Lancaster as their choice for the conference.
On Friday the 16th the Lancaster County Council of the Arts will be holding their Spring Arts Crawl with art studios and stores again open for all to enjoy a different evening, but equally pleasant. There will be plenty of food, fun and entertainment. The Arts Council has developed a great reputation for offering a wonderful and safe evening out with a stroll around town visiting various studios and seeing art work by local and regional artists.
On Saturday the 17th in Kershaw the annual Spring-a-thon will be held. It will kick off with the Fun Run followed by a parade. After that is a full day of activity including a talent contest, a Deal or No Deal game, a petting zoo for the children and plenty of inflatable’s. There is something for the entire family and is a must to attend.
Saturday and Sunday, the 17th and 18th, a new event will occur, the Palmetto Thunder Air Show at Lancaster. This is the first air show to be held in the Charlotte area in a number of years. It promises to be really dynamic for air show enthusiasts. Among the performers will be the SkyHawks Parachute Team, Tim Weber, Goody Thomas and the Flying Farmer. A fun and exciting ground attraction will be the Jet Powered School Bus. There will be great static displays for up-close looks and hands-on experience. The food vendors will be offering wonderful mouth watering choices and the exhibitors will have a variety of items to see and buy. The gates will open at 9:00 and the prices are $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for children and military with proper ID. You won’t want to miss any of the acts.
