See Lancaster Brings Don Dixon to Lancaster
Former Lancaster resident Don Dixon will be the featured artist at the Lancaster Friday at Last on July 27th. Don was born in Lancaster and went to school here, but left to continue his musical career. Dixon is considered to be one of the key producers of what is called the jangle pop movement of the early 1980’s.
Don was pleased to be asked to return to Lancaster for a performance and said he was looking forward to meeting and seeing friends from his younger days here. After leaving Lancaster, his career led in many directions. He spent thirteen years as a member of the North Carolina cult heroes, Arrogance. He has also produced works of many artists, but has also recorded his own solo debut Most of the Girls Like to Dance (But Only Some of the Boys Like To).
Besides Don’s life as a musician and producer, he has also had an acting career. He was in Todd Graff’s 2003 film Camp, playing the role of an alcoholic director. His latest release, The Entire Combustible World in One Small Room, was released in 2006.
See Lancaster has been looking to expand the Friday at Last series. Bringing a local artist back into the community we believe is a great way to start. Also, the location for the event has changed this year. Main Street will be blocked off to permit a safe environment for dancing, shopping and other activities. The merchants will be staying open late and plenty of food will be available. So bring your lawn chairs, kick up your heels and enjoy a great time on Friday, July 27th.
See Lancaster is always looking for volunteers. If you are interested in having a fun time and helping out in any way, just let us know by calling our office at 286-1145 or e-mailing us at seelancaster@seelancaster.org. We look forward to hearing from your or dropping by to see us at 201 West Gay Street inside the Lancaster County Council of the Arts building.
