 See Lancaster Reports -September 2007

Step By Step – See Lancaster’s Annual Meeting

See Lancaster recently held its annual meeting in Heath Springs at Clark Place, an historic building newly renovated by former South Carolina House member and town of Heath Springs resident Billy Boan. New and returning board members, along with invited guests, enjoyed displays of Lancaster County’s historic sites and county-wide events that had been held over the past year. The displays revealed how See Lancaster markets and promotes Lancaster County as a place to visit and enjoy.
The annual report presented at the meeting summarized the previous year and provided a vision for the coming year. The theme of the report, Step By Step, demonstrated that the process of developing a quality marketing, promotion, and Main Street revitalization plan for Lancaster County is a step by step process. The report highlighted major achievements, one of which is a grant to develop a comprehensive cultural heritage and tourism marketing plan for the county. The report also calls attention to the $130,000 estimated revenue added to the local economy by the events and promotions that See Lancaster had been a part of during 2006 and 2007.
Randy Wilson with Community Design Solutions was the guest speaker for the evening. He praised the concept of a county wide program such as See Lancaster. He especially applauded the challenge of bringing together all the political bodies in a county to work for a common goal. Representatives from all four governments attended the meeting along with state representatives. Wilson emphasized how important it is for the people in a community to come together to plan for future growth and development to create a sense of community pride. He felt that See Lancaster’s effort to work with people from all parts of the county has helped create that common thread in determining the future of this county.
Executive Director Frank Keel shared his goals at the meeting for the upcoming year. While the focus of See Lancaster for the previous two years has been on organization, promotion and design, it will now place strong emphasis on economic revitalization. A scheduled visit in October from representatives of the Washington, DC based National Trust Main Street Center, and a new website, Shoplancaster.com to be unveiled November 1, will be instrumental in helping us push toward the goal of economic revitalization. Both will involve ways to better serve the business community while increasing awareness of Lancaster County and how best to improve and develop other business opportunities.
